There's a group on Ravelry called Sock Knitters Anonymous and they have challenges each month. Every so often they have a mystery sock and I've knitted them several times. You get one clue a week, usually three or four total, and at the end of the time, you have socks. I like to knit the mystery socks two at a time so there's more chance they'll be finished. The ones for January were designed by Carrie Sullivan (irishgirlieknits) and had a flower pattern.
The first clue was the cuff:
The second clue was the leg:
The third clue went over the heel and down the foot:
The fourth clue finished them:
This is the first time I've made socks that had a lace pattern down the heel flap, so it was interesting.
I needed some semi-solid sock yarn, so I found a pretty ball in my stash that was dyed and given to me a few years ago by my kind twin, Cathy. Thanks again! The yarn, which is Knitpicks Gloss, has a lot of subtle variations of color, some shine from the silk, and was generally nice to work with. I don't think any of these photos show the color very well. As I mentioned before, I'm going to take a class on photographing knitwear, so maybe next month I'll have more technique!
I also made a mystery pattern by Nancy Bush. I liked this pattern and the yarn, which had a lot of silk in it, but these socks seemed to come out two different lengths. Even when I do them two at a time, it's no guarantee that they'll match!
In other news, I got tired of looking at the brown spots on my face, so I had a MicroLaser Peel yesterday. I'm supposed to be back to normal-looking in 7-10 days (as opposed to the 2-4 advertised in the brochure) because the Doctor went deeper on me. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't that much fun, either, and today I look like I should be in a horror movie. So my last week in the desert this time will mostly be spent inside.
I've invested in a quantity of SPF 50 sunscreen. I'm thinking I don't want to do this again.

I've knitted a couple of other mystery sock patterns. The last one was by Janel Laidman and had an artichoke design and beads. I knitted it out of Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere, which was a wonderful yarn, but I wasn't too thrilled with the way the socks came out and how they fit.
