On Saturday, we attended son number 2's commencement at Central Washington University. It was a sunny, cool day and we got up at 5:30 am to drive two hours across the state. The ceremony started at 9:30 am and the graduates had to line up at 8:45. The drive was pleasant and uneventful.
The commencement took place in the football stadium, so DH and I found seats in the bleachers. The graduates were sitting on the field in an orientation that had us behind them and looking directly into the sun, but despite these small annoyances, it was a lovely and meaningful ceremony. Our graduate even remarked on his enjoyment of the speakers, which says a lot right there.
The ceremony moved quickly and the gentlemen reading the graduates' names as they received their diplomas reminded me of the announcer on "The Price is Right" (come on down!). They livened up an otherwise somewhat tedious litany of names and entertained everyone at the same time.
We were able to get a few photos but the venue wasn't ideal for zooming in and finding one's child in the crowd. For one thing, the sun in my eyes made it very difficult to see through the screen on the camera, so my picture taking was pretty pathetic. DH got a couple of pretty good ones, though.
We drove back home right after the ceremony was over and stopped for a delicious brunch at the Salish Lodge at Snoqualmie Falls. There's a lot of water going over this year and the view was incredible. If you watched "Twin Peaks" you would recognize the scenery here.
All in all, an successful, enjoyable day. We have two of our three children through college now, and the third one is more than half finished. And in a brillian marketing ploy, the CWU Alumni Association bestowed a free one year membership on each graduate. Today in the mail there was the information, along with a card-sized laminated copy of the actual diploma. And there was this:
You can't have too much good press.
And, just in case you thought I forgot it was Worldwide Knit in Public Day, I did my part to represent:

Congrats, Scott! We are extremely proud of you.
